Health often tops the list of resolutions made at the start of a new year. In fact, 2022 wrapped up with an important announcement and commitment from government that puts health care as the number one 2023 resolution for this province. And the QEII is front and centre.

Over the past several years, the planning of QEII New Generation has been taking shape. This project is all about redeveloping the QEII campus for expansion of space and services. In fact, QEII New Generation was the catalyst for the QEII Foundation to launch our $100-million We Are campaign. We knew with the government’s investment in the expanded facilities of New Gen, we could elevate health care further by investing in new technology and innovation at andthrough the QEII.

On December 15, 2022, the government re-introduced QEII New Generation as an updated plan with many enhancements and changes from the original scope.

The project elements will be completed in waves to deliver results sooner. And with the province’s growing population, health access locations will be broadened to offer more services throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality.

With the shift to an accelerated approach, expanded in both scope and to address new population growth predictions, there will be more inpatient beds, additional operating rooms, a new emergency department and a brand-new home for Atlantic Canada’s largest and advanced cancer centre.

These plans will help tackle wait lists, will make access to care easier and will enhance recruitment and retention of essential healthcare providers.

This will be music to the ears of many Nova Scotians who know health care needs attention. And we are right there with you.

The QEII Foundation’s We Are campaign is committed to making the QEII the best that it can be.

Imagine a bright, new QEII purpose-built for today and tomorrow’s needs that is complete with the very latest technology that saves lives. Advanced equipment that is leading the world in patient care. Research collaborations happening in every corner
that are making life-changing discoveries.

Innovation in practices and systems that improve outcomes and efficiencies. And the much-needed patient comfort and care items to make a hospital stay a little less stressful and scary.

That is where the QEII Foundation is focused. We have already accomplished so much since we launched We Are but we’re not stopping until it’s done.

I know the next iteration of the QEII will propel health care forward in this province in all the right directions.

It’s not every day that new hospitals are built. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for the QEII Foundation and our community to contribute to a legacy project that will care for thousands of lives. We are transforming care, join us.
