Located in the Bethune Ballroom, the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing Archives is a little known gem, housing a comprehensive history of both the former Victoria General Hospital and health care in the province. The collection highlights the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing, established in 1891, and its nearly 5,000 nurses who graduated by the time the school closed in 1995.

The VGH School of Nursing is part of the QEII Health Sciences Centre’s rich history. Today, the QEII spans 10 buildings on both the Halifax Infirmary and Victoria General sites.

Run by a team of volunteers — all graduates of the school — the VGH School of Nursing Archives is open to the public on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
